Lattice strain refers to a slight, atomic-level displacement in the structure of a material, and researchers at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology have just won research funding to investigate how this phenomenon can be harnessed to produce high efficiency fuel cells.  The grants came from MIT, the Department of Energy, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Certified Renewable Energy Facilities in Nebraska

blog greenbldg Certified Renewable Energy Facilities in NebraskaNebraska Governor Dave Heineman signed a bill into law, which is aimed at encouraging and allowing opportunities for private developers to develop, own, and operate certified renewable energy facilities even if the energy produced from such facilities is intended primarily for export from the state.  The new law creates a mechanism for the Nebraska Power Review Board to consider and approve of certified renewable energy facilities for the purpose of energy export. Such facilities are defined as facilities that will generate electricity using solar, wind, biomass, or landfill gas, including all generating equipment, easements, and interconnection equipment within the facility and equipment connecting the facility to the transmission grid.
