MA 150x150 Mergers & Acquisitions Point to Renewable Energy GrowthAlthough Vestas’ big second-quarter losses might point to the contrary, investor confidence in the cleantech sector is bullish. A report, compiled by IMAP, a global network of merger and acquisition advisory firms, shows that the number of mergers and acquisitions in the alternative energy sectors rose 54% last year.  IMAP’s research shows that mergers and acquisitions in renewable energy’s three major sectors — solar power, wind energy, and biofuels — was worth US$20.4 billion last year.

google 150x150 Google Comes Out Swinging for California Climate LawGoogle threw its considerable weight behind California’s landmark climate change law this week, when it hosted an event where it argued an upcoming measure to kill the law would derail past and future gains made in cleantech job growth.  Google hosted the event with the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, featuring California Air Resources Board chairwoman Mary Nichols, venture capitalist guru Vinod Khosla, Google Green Energy Czar Bill Weihl, and PG&E senior vice president Tom Bottorff, who discussed the negative implications from Proposition 23, which would derail the state’s climate law, also known as AB 32.

The bigger-than-expected decline in jobless claims was a relief after a slew of weak reports had left investors fearing the economy could slip back into recession. “Talk of a double-dip may be a little premature. Investors jumped on the double-dip bandwagon, but we don’t really see it,” said Alan Lancz, president at Alan B. Lancz & Associates in Toledo, Ohio.

When the question has arisen, I have found myself wondering where the green jobs are sprouting. Then, yesterday, I came across a post listing the top 10 cities for green jobs. California led the pack with three of its cities: San Francisco, Los Angeles and Sacramento in the top 10. Green jobs increased in California by 36% between 1995 and 2008, compared with an overall job growth of only 13%. The top ten list follows:

Green Job Training – 44 Counties get Top Consideration

green jobs 2 Green Job Training   44 Counties get Top Consideration Gov. Ted Strickland announced that Montgomery and Champaign counties are among 44 counties that will get top consideration for a new $6 million “green job” training program.  The announcement came as Strickland prepared to sign Senate Bill 232, sponsored by Sen. Chris Widener, R-Springfield, that eliminates real and tangible property taxes for advanced and renewable energy projects such as wind farms and solar efforts.
