Due to the recent invention made by the automobile giant Honda, users of fuel cell electric vehicles can now expect a relief from refueling. Honda’s attempt has finally eliminated the requirement of a separate electrolyzer and compressor. This all-in-one system of Honda Solar Hydrogen station has both the electrolyzer and the compressor together, thus allowing accommodation of the complete system in a small home garage. The system can provide up to 0.5 kg of hydrogen over 8 hours. Further to the reduction in size, this new system is 25% more efficient as compared to its earlier versions.

The business and legal aspects of developing a complex commercial energy project are formidable even when the industry, technology and transactional settings are well established. These tasks become more difficult when the project has a “frontier” element that is not mature—when multiple new technologies are evolving and being tested, the legal regime or relevant agencies have not been defined, the benefits or liabilities are unclear or uncertain, or the other parties and economic terms necessary for success are not identified by the time that a commitment must be made.

As the attention of entire world is focused on sustainable renewable energy sources, a major hindrance to the same is cost of installation. Most perfect example of this may be the solar energy – where the installation cost is overwhelming. But a recent discovery by University of California – Berkley – is destined to change this.

New work from researchers at Denmark’s National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, Risø DTU, is expected to bring smarter wind turbines to commercial wind farms in the near future. The research should allow for greater energy production from wind turbines using the new technology. The team has successfully integrated a laser-based anemometer into the spinner of a wind turbine system.

The world’s largest and most modern biomass pellet production facility is coming to the state of Georgia. RWE Innogy (ETR:RWE) will invest nearly $170 million USD into the project. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 750,000 tonnes. Although manufactured in Georgia, the biomass pellets will initially be shipped to two coal power plants in the Netherlands. At these plants, pellets have replace 30% of the fuel supply; there are plans to increase this number to 50%.

Robert Kennedy Jr. won’t rest until his vision for a green economy is heard. He’s been visiting college campuses across the country speaking about the environment, energy, and the economy. “Sound economic and environmental policies are intrinsically tied, and energy providers should reward customers for conserving power rather than consuming it,” Kennedy recently told a college audience in Pennsylvania.

The legal battle over climate change and global warming in the United States has begun with the state that contributes the most carbon dioxide trying to maintain the status quo. The state of Texas challenged in court the federal government’s authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. Simply, Texas doesn’t want to follow U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) mandates.

Jet fuel is responsible for upwards of 40 percent of an airline’s operational costs, making this industry particularly sensitive to volatility in the oil market. As a result, airlines, airplane manufacturers and federal governments are major stakeholders in the effort to find a stable, sustainable replacement for fossil fuels to power planes.
