New Energy Conservation Steps Announced by Obama

U.S. President Barack Obama is forcing energy preservation in American houses and businesses, starting with a new set of standards for lighting.  Mr. Obama is working hard to get sweeping energy legislation through Congress. But in the meanwhile, he is taking minimal steps to promote preservation.  He has announced that many seemingly small moves can make an impact, like aiming higher efficiency standards for light bulbs.

“I know light bulbs may not seem sexy,” Obama stated. “But this simple action holds huge promise because seven percent of all the energy consumed in America is used to light our homes and our businesses.”

The president says that the savings will be alarming.

Between 2012 and 2042, these new standards will save consumers up to $4 billion a year.

Obama also emphasizes that millions of dollars have been kept aside under the economic stimulus bill he signed in February 2009 to widen the development and utility of alternative energy technology in residential and commercial buildings. He added that money will be handed out much rapidly than originally planned.

Energy conservation is the practice of decreasing the quantity of energy used. It may be achieved through efficient energy use, in which case energy use is decreased while achieving a similar outcome, or by reduced consumption of energy services. Energy conservation may result in increase of financial capital, environmental value, national security, personal security, and human comfort. Individuals and organizations that are direct consumers of energy may want to conserve energy in order to reduce energy costs and promote economic security. Industrial and commercial users may want to increase efficiency and thus maximize profit.

The United States is currently one of the largest single consumer of energy. The U.S. Department of Energy categorizes national energy use in four broad sectors: transportation, residential, commercial, and industrial.

Energy usage in transportation and residential sectors (about half of U.S. energy consumption) is largely controlled by individual domestic consumers. Commercial and industrial energy expenditures are determined by businesses entities and other facility managers. National energy policy has a significant effect on energy usage across all four sectors.

By reducing emissions, energy conservation is an important part of lessening climate change. Energy conservation facilitates the replacement of non-renewable resources with renewable energy. Energy conservation is often the most economical solution to energy shortages, and is a more environmentally benign alternative to increased energy production.

Consumers are often poorly informed of the savings of energy efficient products. The research one must put into conserving energy often is too time consuming and costly when there are cheaper products and technology available using today’s fossil fuels.

Good Morning, Consumers who are poorly informed are job opportunity for others to teach.I have trouble with you Mr. President in Procrastination and also not directing tax credits away from big oil and directing towards goal of jobs and educating citizens on your energy conservation.
Look at your addiction of smoking the same way. When I quit smoking I put out my cigarette and started working without them. We need to stop our addiction of oil and other business that is slowing us down.
President Obama please take me the right way. I think I do write because I am a true Patriot who believes you must also be.I hope because I think you are brilliant stop look and listen.I also need to. Stop giving so much to the banks who could care less about peoples jobs and loans.Lets with Chu,who you choose get the jobs going already.People of the United States need the jobs already. We need them.Good Day

I for one do not appreciate Mr. Obama taking charge of everything. He does not have my vote to proceed with any of his gov’t expansion programs. This sounds suspiciously like centralized control of us all. Didn’t that approach already fail miserably in Russia and China?

    Consider the Connection to:
    The Economic Pyramid
Green energy is needed at all levels of the
    Economic Pyramid.
Where is the Economic Pyramid “CTC3)?
